An abundance of ramblings

we can dance, we can sing, do whatever you think

Today…

I finally finished that policy process paper. I think I did okay despite my lack of motivation. It focused on global health policy which is refreshing from all the national health policies I felt I was drowning in. An interesting thing I learned while writing this paper is that we usually overestimate the amount of foreign aid spent from the U.S. I think one of the articles I read said that global health costs is about $8 per person annually for a low population size. $8 here in the U.S. can’t even buy 1 meal at a sit down restaurant.

I’m still a newbie on the concept of global health policy so who knows if my assessment of the financial aspect of it is correct. And I do have some angst because the paper was so painful to write but at least I’m opening my eyes to new things.

I also created Meals for Mates Monday. Joel and I used to go out on Take Out Tuesdays awhile back, where we would go out weekly for dinner. I can’t remember why we stopped probably because life got busy. In any case, today is Monday so I made up a catchy name for our excuse to go out. It kind of makes it a little special to give it a name and possibly have a new ritual.

I decided to also open mail. The one mail I opened was a hospital bill for $50. The awesome thing was I knew where my checkbook was. I wrote the check and sealed the envelope. Knowing I have to get stamps and mail the bill motivated me to write a couple of postcards. I wrote one to my big bro who is doing this postcard experiment where he sends postcards to friends and sees who sends him one back. My return postcard is severely overdue but I think his experiment is on-going so I think I’m okay. Then for good measure I wrote one to my lil Sis also. I would have wrote a 3rd but I wasn’t happy with my handwriting in the attempt to write it.

I am currently debating whether or not to sleep upstairs or down here on the couch. It is so hot upstairs and I don’t have the air conditioning on. The temperature down here is pretty cool. The downfall to sleeping downstairs is the proximity to the kitchen which can lead to night snacking, which is beyond my control right now. Also it is somewhat far from the restroom which I frequent at night.

I am getting kind of tired. I think I’ll go upstairs despite the heat. I just love a good starfishing, right Elaine?
